Malmaison Glasgow Facts at a Glance

• Hip Location In the heart of the city’s business district, Malmaison Glasgow is just a short stroll to downtown Glasgow’s retail, culture and clubland.
  
• Distinctive Building A former 19th century church, St Jude’s of Blytheswood Square is now the striking Malmaison Glasgow. The hotel opened in September 1994 and retains architect John Stephen’s remarkable Greco-Egyptian edifice of 1839. John Stephen was famed for his addiction to the Greek Revival. According to local history for much of the 19th century St Jude’s was one of Glasgow’s most fashionable places to worship.
  
• Bold Designs Glasgow originally opened with just 21 bedrooms and it was later extended to 72 in 1997. Huge pillars line the intimate, welcoming reception area. There is a strong use of colour and design, chocolate and taupe chequer board designed carpets and walls, ornate wrought iron work on the staircase as well the sphere shaped chandelier all add to the theatrical drama.

Malmaison Edinburgh Facts at a Glance
Hip Location This hotel, the first ever Malmaison, celebrates its 10th birthday this September. It is a majestic 100-room site that stands tall with its striking castle-like facade overlooking the recently rejuvenated bohemian harbour of the Port of Leith, a 15 minute walk from Edinburgh city centre.

• Distinctive Building Built in 1883 as a seaman’s mission on the bustling shore of Leith this beautiful yet imposing building has several turrets and a clock tower. The mission was a focal point for the people of Leith and became iconic to the tired sailors arriving on shore, known then as the biggest whorehouse in Edinburgh. The interior was elegantly decorated with a dancing pole in the centre of the bar.
  
• Bold Designs The building has been expanded to four times its original size. The staircase is the same. The forecourt remains fairly unchanged. The 19th century walls are made of sandstone, the colours now bold and brazen.

Hotel Du Vin at One Devonshire Gardens

Location: Hotel du Vin’s flagship hotel and first Scottish property is set in a tree-lined terrace in Glasgow’s stylish west end. Within walking distance of Glasgow’s Botanic Gardens, and many of the city’s fine galleries and museums including the famous Kelvingrove and The Hunterian Museums.

Building: Occupying a row of five Victorian town houses, the hotel retains all its original features including dramatic stained glass windows, ornate corniced ceilings, wood panelling and sweeping staircases. William Burrell (owner of one of the most famous private collections of art and artefacts in the world) lived in House 4 in the 1890’s and commissioned a panel in the stained glass window during this time.
